Love your Neighborhood Pets: Addressing Pet Food Insecurity in Philadelphia
LOVE your Neighborhood Pets: Addressing Pet Hunger in Philadelphia
Our Mission
The Philly Pet Pantry is an organization that aims to address pet food insecurity in the Philadelphia area through establishing "pet pantries," or food banks, that carry non-perishable pet food. These food banks are available to anyone and cost nothing. We want every pet to have access to healthy and nutritional food items, regardless of cost. The Philly Pet Pantry organizes community supply drives to stock the pantries and partners with organizations such as veterinary clinics, schools, and churches to reach as many people as we can. Each of our pet pantry locations exists as an extension of the partnered organization; by doing this, we have more reach and can impact the lives of more pets.

Food insecurity is a pressing issue in Philadephia, but not just for humans. According to Feeding America, over 10.5% of Philadelphia residents struggled with food insecurity. Additionally, around 22% of Philadelphians live in poverty (as of 2022). This number has been increasing each year. If someone struggles with food insecurity or struggles financially, their companion animal(s) will likely not have access to the food and supplies they need to live healthy lives. Nutritional pet food is often expensive and, therefore, difficult for people to provide for their pets. There should be no monetary restriction to experiencing animal companionship or being able to support your pets. The Philly Pet Pantry ensures pet owners can access free pet supplies whenever needed by operating and establishing food banks, aka Pet Pantries, in locations across Philadelphia. See our locations and partnerships for more!
Each Pet Pantry food bank consists of stationary, permanent containers at each designated location. By implementing a "take some, leave some" policy, our pet pantries can be stocked at all times by anyone and, therefore, are available for anyone in need to take. This ensures a hassle and embarrassment-free experience, as they are accessible so that people may take what they need or leave what they wish. In addition to addressing pet food insecurity in Philadelphia, the Philly Pet Pantry hopes to create community involvement to bring awareness to animal welfare and food insecurity.
The Philly Pet Pantry's operation style varies from location to location. To see more, check out our location tab.
